The film tells a touching story of laughter and tears between the glasssmith Charlow (played by Charles Chaplin) and the abandoned baby (played by Jackie Coogan). Charlow found an abandoned baby beside the trash can and adopted him. By the time the child grows to be four or five years old, they will already be very sensible. A father and son performed a duet. When the son broke the glass, the father would step forward to replace it to support the family. Charlo took his "son" to evade the police's pursuit to prevent him from being sent to an orphanage. But the child's mother later had money and offered a reward for finding the child. Someone stole the child from Charlo for money, but he searched everywhere but couldn't find it. The exhausted Charlo came to heaven in his dream. When he woke up, he was surprised to find that his "son" and his mother were standing right in front of him... This film ranked 67th among the 100 best films selected by Brazil's Title magazine in 1978.[Collapse]
