This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by American novelist Dennis Lehane. In 1954, federal police officer Teddy (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his partner Chuck (played by Mark Ruffalo) took a boat to the Shutter Island Psychiatric Prison near Boston to investigate a bizarre disappearance case. Rachel (played by Emily Mortimer), the female prisoner who killed her own flesh and blood, mysteriously escaped from the heavily guarded prison cell and hid deep in the island.
