Many years have passed since his wife's death. The taciturn Yamahira (played by Tomoyuki Kasa) has become accustomed to the life of being tenderly cared for by his soon-to-be daughter, Michiko (played by Shima Iwashita). On the surface, Daozi seemed willing to take care of his old father and never showed any desire to get married. Shanping's joy in his old age was to drink and chat with a few old friends from his middle school days. During the meal, whenever the friends brought up Daozi's marriage or offered to introduce someone to her, Shanping would always politely decline, but he was afraid that he couldn't figure out what to face. However, every time he drank, he would stop in time to avoid getting drunk and causing too much trouble for Daozi. On this day, at a middle school classmate gathering, Shanping learned that his teacher's once beautiful daughter had remained unmarried to take care of him. Later, she sent the drunk teacher home. Seeing that the beautiful woman was now old and haggard, he was startled and thought of Daozi. After that, he signaled Daozi to consider the matter of marriage. Daozi, however, understood it as her father driving her out and was extremely sad. He tried to persuade her with kind words before nodding with tears in his eyes. The moment Daozi agreed, he felt an endless pang of sadness again.[Collapse]
