The story takes place during World War II. Zhou Zuo (played by Hiroyuki Nagato) is seriously ill and has lost hope in life. He comes to a hot spring inn in Okayama Prefecture and decides to end his life there. In the hotel, Zhou Zuo met a 17-year-old girl named Shinko (played by Mariko Okada). Under Shinko's meticulous care, Zhou Zuo gradually regained his health and reignited his hope for life. When Zhou Zuo saw Xinzi again, it was already three years later. Zhou Zuo did not cherish the hard-won health but let it live in alcohol and entertainment. Zhou Zuo intended to invite Xinzi to commit suicide together, but Xinzi's cheerful personality eventually made them give up the idea.
