This film is adapted from Suzanne Kaisen's autobiographical novel. Susanna (played by Winona Ryder) was an ordinary girl in the prime of her youth, but was diagnosed with "borderline insanity" and sent to a mental hospital. Although Susanna was tormented by the mental stress of the real world, in the mental hospital, she met a group of seemingly ill-tempered but extraordinary new friends. Lisa (played by Angelina Jolie), who has an antisocial personality, leads Georgina (played by Clea DuVall), who has a habit of lying, and Polly (played by Elisabeth Moss), who is deeply afraid of fire. Daisy (played by Brittany Murphy), who couldn't eat in front of others, and other girls made many astonishing moves, which gave hospital administrators a headache. Susanna gradually became part of the girls' "secret activities". These unconventional and crazy adventures led her on a spiritual journey to find herself. Angelina Jolie won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 72nd Academy Awards (2000) for this film.[Collapse]
