Monty (played by Edward Norton) is walking his dog in New York. During the day, he visits his old friend Jacob (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) at the school where he used to study. Jacob works as an English teacher there. In class, his female student Mary (played by Anna Paquin) is very active.
