The story takes place in 1845, when the Great Western Migration had just begun. To traverse that desolate and perilous wild land, one needed not only sufficient courage and luck but also wisdom. Three families decided to leave their homeland and seek a new life. To protect themselves, they found a guide named Mick (played by Bruce Greenwood), hoping that he could escort them safely to their destination. However, as everyone moved further and further away on what Mick called the near road, the increasingly desolate scene and the increasingly unfamiliar environment made them realize that they had lost their way. Resources were gradually depleting, and hunger, thirst and panic were gradually wearing down people's will. Just when everyone felt they had no way out, the arrival of a local native brought new hope. However, they were not sure whether the visitor was a friend or an enemy.[Collapse]
