Payne (played by Todd Babcock) is an American doctor living in a concession in Shanghai. By chance, he meets Hao Ming (played by Tao Zeru), a Kuomintang spy. When Hao Ming was young, inspired by the October Revolution, he also had a great red ideal. However, the cruelty of the White Terror made him change his original intention and take up the butcher's knife to massacre the Communist Party. Before Hao Ming's wife committed suicide, she sent their daughter Qiu Qiu to a church school. After growing up, Qiu Qiu (played by Mei Ting) joined the Communist Party under the influence of the Communist Party member Jin (played by Leslie Cheung) and pretended to be his wife to hide in Shanghai to treat Jin's serious illness. When Qiuqiu appeared before Payne, Payne fell in love with this beautiful Chinese woman at first sight. However, when he learned about Qiuqiu and Jin's story, while deciding to help them at all costs, he also witnessed that romantic yet poignant red love story.[Collapse]
