Little girl Dorothy Gale (played by Judy Garland) lives on a farm in central Kansas with her uncle and aunt. One day, a tornado hit. In order to find her beloved puppy, Dorothy failed to hide in time. A powerful tornado lifted the cabin where Dorothy was hiding into the air. After an unknown period of time, the small wooden house finally hit the ground and crushed an evil witch to death as well. Guided by the kind Northern witch, Dorothy and the puppy set off for the Emerald City where the magician Oz (played by Frank Morgan) lived, praying that he could help them return home. On the way, Dorothy met a brainless scarecrow (played by Ray Bolger), a Tin man without a heart (played by Jack Haley), and a timid lion (played by Bert Lahr). To fulfill their respective wishes, they moved forward with Dorothy. Along the way, they have encountered countless difficulties and dangers, and there are evil Western witches everywhere who obstruct them. Will their wishes eventually come true?
