Sylvia (played by Nicole Kidman) is an African United Nations translator. By chance, she heard of a political conspiracy. At the United Nations General Assembly, they were planning to murder an African head of state. They talked in the African dialect, but unexpectedly their secrets were eavesdropped on by Sylvia, who mastered the language. Sylvia thus became a thorn in the side of others who were eager to get rid of her. The FBI sent agent Tobin (played by Sean Penn) to be Sylvia's temporary bodyguard. The two, with very different personalities, gradually got to know each other's backgrounds and origins as they spent time together. At this point, Tobin suspected that Sylvia might be hiding a secret unknown to others. It seemed that there was a deep grudge between Sylvia and this African leader involved in the murder plan. This made Tobin suspicious: Was Sylvia the victim of the incident or a participant in the conspiracy? Tobin was both skeptical and determined to fulfill his duty and protect Sylvia. The two were drawn to each other amid suspicion. In an increasingly dangerous situation, they must find out the truth as soon as possible.[Collapse]
