Lao Zuo (played by Wong Chiu-sang) is a thorough leftist of the older generation in Hong Kong. He hums "Ode to the Motherland" and "Outwitting Tiger Mountain", and holds high the great banner of serving the people. His greatest wish in life was to visit Tian 'anmen Square in Beijing. Lao Zuo devoted his entire life to serving the people wholeheartedly and never put his heart into his own small family, which made his son Zuo Zhong (played by Andy Lau) very dissatisfied. Zuo Zhong has a childhood sweetheart named Lu Min (played by Miriam Yeung). After graduating from high school, Lu Min went abroad for further study. Zuo Zhong doesn't want to carry the burden of "Zuo" like Lao Zuo for the rest of his life. Taking advantage of the opportunity of China's reform and opening up, he embarked on an adventurous gold-mining journey in the mainland. After the return of Zuo Zhong and Lu Min in 1997, they eventually came back to Hong Kong covered in scars. How will the life of the old Zuo come to an end?[Collapse]
