The story takes place in New York in the 1990s. After completing her postgraduate studies, Joanna (played by Margaret Quilly), who dreams of becoming a writer, is hired as an assistant by Margaret (played by Sigurney Weaver), who is J.D.Salinger's literary agent and is known for her conservatism and old-school style. Joanna works in a luxurious wood-paneling office during the day and spends the night in a dilapidated apartment in Brooklyn with her socialist boyfriend. Her main job is to handle the emails from a large number of Salinger's fans. When carefully reading the heart-wrenching letters from all over the world, she was unwilling to fob off her fans with formatted and impersonal responses, and impulsively began to reply to the emails with her own feelings. These emails are both humorous and touching. While Joanna borrows the voice of a great writer to speak, she is also exploring her own voice.[Collapse]
