This film is adapted from the stage play created by female writer Marguerite Duras in 1968. It stars French national treasure actress Charlotte Gainsbourg and Nils Schneide, who has just been nominated for the Cesar Award for Best Actor. The story follows the day of the wealthy wife Susanna and her lover in a seaside villa. Director Benoit Jacques, who studied under Duras, is skilled at capturing the subtle changes in women's psychology. With his proficient stage scene arrangement and the variations of light and shadow by the seaside, along with Gansb's brilliant performance, he vividly portrays a rich lady who appears cold on the surface but is actually fearful inside, deceiving herself in marriage and emotions. The film was selected for the screening section of the 2021 Hong Kong International Film Festival.[Collapse]
