"Miao Mountain Flower" is based on the character of Xiong Sanmei, a Miao girl among the "Three Brothers and Sisters of the Xiong Family" in the Ma Mountain area of Guizhou Province before liberation. The story takes place in the late 1930s, when the Ma Mountain Farmers' Self-Defense Corps in the border area of Luodian, Wangmo and Ziyun counties engaged in a fierce and arduous struggle against the local forces of the Kuomintang.
