The story takes place after World War II. Antonia (played by Willeke van Ammelrooy) returns to her long-lost hometown with her daughter Daniele (played by Els Dottermans). Antonia's kind-hearted and generous nature brought new hope to her war-ravaged homeland. She successively took in the dementia girl Dai Dai (played by Marina de Graaf) and the farmer Bas (played by Jan Decleir), among others. A special family was formed - the Antonia family. A warm and close relationship sustains these family members who have no blood ties. While supporting each other, there are also irreconcilable contradictions.
