Haller (played by Max von Sydow) is a writer. Cynical and cynical, he is very dissatisfied with many of the living habits of contemporary society. Unable to integrate into society, he often locks himself at home and stays indoors. In loneliness and darkness, Haller's spirit is on the verge of collapse. One day, by chance, Harrell read a book called "Review of Steppenwolf", and the content in it enlightened him. He felt that this book was tailor-made for him. By chance, Haller introduced the barmaid Hermina, and through her introduction, he got to know the musician Pablo and the girl Maria (played by Dominique Sanda). When Haller discovered that Hermina was having an affair with Pablo, driven by jealousy and losing his mind, Haller killed Hermina.[Collapse]
