Sister Sharon (played by JeanSimmons) is on her preaching tour. Along the way, she meets a man named Elmer (played by BurtLancaster). Elmer was a shrewd and cunning opportunist. In Sister Sharon, he saw business opportunities. Under the pretext of building a church by the seaside, Elmer persuaded Sharon to make money with him. Soon, the innocent and naive Sharon couldn't help but fall in love with Elmer and even offered him the body that should have been dedicated to God. But it wasn't long before Elmer grew tired of Sharon and ruthlessly abandoned her. Lulu (played by ShirleyJones), the daughter of a priest, expressed deep sympathy and anger upon learning of Sharon's tragic fate.
