Hugh Glass (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is a fur hunter. After being seriously beaten by a bear during a hunting trip, he was saved by the ship captain Andrew Henry (played by Domhnall Gleeson) who was traveling with him. The captain hired two people, John Fitzgerald (played by Tom Hardy) and Jim Bridger (played by Will Poulter), to take care of him. John Fitzgerald had no intention of taking care of Glass at all. He was only intent on keeping Glass's property for himself. So he brutally killed Glass's son and persuaded Jim Bridger to abandon Glass in the wilderness to die. The two had thought that Glass would die like this, but Glass, with his strong willpower, wandered through the wild and untamed land for several months and finally returned to a safe area, where he began his revenge plan.
