In 1957, college student Lin Xiangjun (played by Wu Shengyi) came to Hokkaido to visit his father's good friend, Matsumoto Akio (played by Jun Hamamura). At Mr. Matsumoto's home, he met his adopted daughter, Kayako (played by Ayumi Minami), who was in high school. More than a decade ago, during the chaotic period after World War II, Kayako was abandoned by her Japanese biological parents and later adopted by the Matsumoto couple, who were Korean. The brief encounter made Xiangjun and Gayako develop a faint affection for each other. Since then, although they were in Tokyo and Hokkaido, they still exchanged their feelings through letters. However, factors such as war and ethnicity were like invisible walls, standing between the two. Sang-jun's father, Kyu-soo (played by Takeshi Kato), cannot forget the humiliation and hatred of his nation. Even as the victorious side, he is still tormented by the pain. Although Gayako's adoptive mother was Korean, she did not want her daughter to fall in love with a Korean and firmly opposed her relationship with Sang-jun. Love may seem selfish, after all, it's not a matter between two people... This film is adapted from the original work by Li Huicheng.[Collapse]
