Four years ago, the imprisonment of her husband Martin (played by Channing Tatum) plunged Emily (played by Rooney Mara) into depression. Now that Martin has been released from prison, Emily's depression has not lessened. Instead, she attempted to commit suicide by driving in the parking lot. After her suicide attempt failed, Doctor Jon (played by Jude Law) began to treat her. Jon learned that Emily's previous doctor was Siebert, so he asked Siebert for some information. Jon prescribed Emily several medicines for depression, but none of them seemed to work. Emily suggested she take a medicine called Ablixa, which was recommended to her by her colleague Julia. After taking this new medicine, Emily's condition improved somewhat, but she began to sleepwalk. Jon told her that sleepwalking was a side effect of taking this medicine. One night, Martin returned home and found Emily sleepwalking in the kitchen. Emily even stabbed Martin with a knife. Martin died and the court acquitted Emily, but she must receive treatment in a mental hospital. Jon was also embroiled in the controversy because of this incident. He began to investigate the cause and effect of the entire murder case and found that it was not as simple as Emily taking the medicine and having side effects.
