Leda (played by Olivia Coleman) goes on vacation to the beach alone. On the beach, she notices a young mother and daughter and can't take her eyes off them. The striking relationship between them, as well as their noisy and unfriendly family members, made Leda feel uneasy. She recalled the fear, confusion and hardships she had when she first became a mother. An unintentional act threw Leda into an inner world that even she herself felt strange and ominous. There, she saw her past: when she was still a young mother, she made extraordinary choices and faced a series of consequences. This film is Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut. She adapted Elena Ferrante's novel into the script for this film.[Collapse]
