In post-war Japan, four retired geishas maintained their former relationship in a different way and also experienced the loneliness of life. Yoko (played by Haruko Sugimura) was entangled with many men when she was young. Even today, her former lover still interferes in her life. Alone, Yoko lends money at high interest rates to her former sisters, using a harsh attitude to cover up some of her disappointment. Yinmei and Yuhui share a room. They have a son and a daughter respectively. Now Yinmei is addicted to gambling and Yuhui is ill. They have no choice but to endure Xuji's ridicule. As their children grew older, they got married and left for distant places. Yin Mei and Yu Hui felt extremely lonely for a while and could only drown their sorrows in alcohol... Yuki's long-forgotten lover, Tanabe (played by Ken Uehara), visits. But this middle-aged man has long lost his former vigor and vitality. Will the last glimmer of hope that Yuki has kindled also fade away? This film is adapted from three novels by author Fumiko Hayashi and ranked seventh among the top ten films of the year by Kinema Junpo.[Collapse]
