Charles Ryder (played by Matthew Goode), a commoner young man, entered Oxford University with a heart full of dreams. Soon, he met the remarkable Sebastian Froit (played by Ben Whishaw) and became good friends with him. Sebastian is astonishingly handsome and comes from a wealthy family. By nature, he is full of sensitivity and sorrow. He takes Charles into his luxurious mansion - Briedhead Estate and introduces him to his family.
