At the early end of the Korean War, in a village near a US military base in South Korea, the lives of most residents were shrouded in post-war emptiness, confusion and despair, with no way out to be found. Shangwu (played by Yang Donggen), with his dark skin, was born to his mother (played by Fang Yinzhen) during the war with an African American soldier. Since childhood, he has suffered discrimination and developed a violent personality. Whenever he has nowhere to vent, he would punch and kick his mother. Her mother, unwilling to be at the mercy of fate, repeatedly wrote to the United States, hoping that her black husband would bring her and her son there, but each time she only received a return letter with the recipient unknown. His good friend Eun-woo (played by Kim Young-min), who makes a living by painting, is often bullied by howitans due to his weak build. When his beloved girl is humiliated and becomes a soldier in the United States, he can only watch helplessly and go crazy secretly.[Collapse]
