In Brooklyn, New York in 1988, Bobby (played by Joaquin Phoenix) runs a large club for Russian businessman Bashayev. His girlfriend Amanda (played by Eva Mendes) loves him deeply. His career and love life are going well, but Bobby's family makes him feel resistant.
