The story took place in 1946. After the civil war, somewhere in the heart of Spain was left with nothing but despair, poverty and exile. There was a boy who kept on the run and found a hiding place in a ditch. After the search team left, he was confronted with a plain full of danger and drought. Fortunately, on his way across the plain, he met a shepherd and the two eventually chose to travel together. All along the way, they had to deal with hunger and water shortage and avoid the men sent by the foreman to look for the boy. The shepherd became the boy's mentor: he explained his profession and his understanding of life. As time went by, the shepherd also came to know exactly what kind of fear the boy was trying to escape from.[Collapse]
