Amy (played by Brigitte Mira) is a 60-year-old cleaning lady. Despite her hard work, she earns a meager salary and leads a very poor life. By chance, she met Ali (played by El Hedi ben Salem), who was 40 years old. After they danced together, Ali offered to send Amy home. It was late at night. Ali missed the last bus and had to stay overnight at Amy's place. Two lonely and isolated people felt as if they had known each other for a long time. They talked by candlelight in the dead of night. When Amy was deeply puzzled by this, Ali merely comforted her gently. Sure enough, the story of Amy staying overnight with the man soon spread throughout the streets and alleys. The pointing fingers from her neighbors and colleagues made her feel extremely uneasy. Helplessly, she had to fabricate a lie, saying that Ali was her fiance. This marriage was unsurprisingly opposed by everyone. Everyone did their best to exclude and slander the couple, which made them decide to go on a trip to avoid trouble. After returning, the situation of the two improved somewhat. It wasn't because the neighbors accepted them, but because they had new targets to be excluded. Despite the absence of external pressure, Amy and Ali's relationship began to crack due to internal conflicts. The film uses a realistic approach to present a cold and mean society, exploring the various forms of discrimination existing within it and the lonely and dark side of human nature.[Collapse]
