German youth Chris (played by Daniel Bruhl) plans to travel to Africa, but he has no money and, by a twist of fate, his passport is detained by the police. With no other choice, he secretly boarded a cargo ship bound for Africa with a sailor he met in a tavern. Chris didn't hide on the ship for long before he was discovered by the captain Brooks (played by Peter Mullan). The captain admired the young man and thus kept him to help in the kitchen. Chris and the crew members soon became familiar with each other, but he found that the others seemed to be hiding something from him, and just then, the crew members disappeared one after another. While looking for the crew, Chris discovered two African illegal immigrants.
