In the tumultuous 1970s, Fumiko Yano (played by Rimi Ishihara), an English department student, was hired by associate professor Shintaro Katase (played by Shin Iura) to serve as an assistant in English literature translation. Kanase's wife, Chiko (played by Rina Tanaka), is graceful and charming. She was once the eldest daughter of a viscount family. Xiao Bu was loved by the Katase couple, but their rather strange way of getting along also made her feel extremely uneasy. Chiko interacts with both Katase's students and old friends from girls' days at the same time, but Katase shows no jealousy at all; instead, he takes it in stride. In the villa in Karuizawa, Kobu has become the most important presence of the Katase couple. However, the unrestrained love that had been growing wildly suddenly got out of control. Chiko fell in love with a local young electrician (played by Ko Saito). Katase noticed this change, and the beast in his heart was released from its cage, thus leading to an irreparable tragedy... This film is adapted from the original work by Mariko Koike.[Collapse]
