In 1938, the Japanese army's iron hooves trampled upon the Chinese land, but Wu Fu, a water town in the south of the Yangtze River, was like a source of peach blossoms, living a secluded and peaceful life. On the day of the 40th birthday banquet of Mrs. Wu (played by Luo Yan), the mistress of the Wu Mansion, her good friend Mrs. Kang was in labor and her life was hanging by a thread. Mrs. Wu hurried to her friend's place, where she happened to meet Willem Dafoe, a foreign doctor from the orphanage.
