In 1942 in Germany, 17-year-old Friedrich (played by Max Riemelt) trained himself hard, dreaming of joining the Nazi training camp one day. After passing numerous exams, he got the chance. However, his father strongly opposed it. So he forged his father's signature on the document and successfully became a member of the training camp, beginning the hard training every day. Among them, he met Albrecht (played by Tom Schilling), the son of a German officer, and the two developed a deep friendship. However, Albrecht was not enthusiastic about the Nazis; instead, he preferred literature and writing. Albrecht's father, however, hoped that his son would become a Nazi officer like him in the future, and the two were constantly in conflict. In the training camp, Friedrich and Albrecht discovered many ugly phenomena, and Friedrich's faith began to waver. And in one water training, Albrecht never came out of the water again...... This film won the Best Original Screenplay Award at the 2003 German Film Awards.[Collapse]
