On New Year's Eve in Liujiazhai, widow Zhang Caixia (played by Yuan Jiamin) and her mother-in-law Li Yuemei mysteriously disappeared. After reporting the case, the police investigated and listed Liu Dongmin (played by Chen Baoyuan), the director of the village's quarry, Liu Fang (played by Ba Duo), an unemployed vagrant, and Liu Shanpao (played by Sang Ping), a blasting driver at the quarry, as suspects, but all three denied it outright
