During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, the Red Flower Society rose to power, attempting to overthrow the rule of the Manchu Qing. Yu Wanting, the chief commander of the Red Flower Society, sneaked into the forbidden palace and reported that Emperor Qianlong (played by Zheng Shaoqiu) was originally of Han origin. Emperor Qianlong, for safety reasons, killed Yu's adopted son, Chen Jialuo, who was Emperor Qianlong's younger brother and took over as the chief commander after his death, carrying on the great cause of resisting the Qing and restoring the Han.
