When the two girls went from being friends to having more friends, one of them met a stranger who needed a place to spend the night.

On the French battlefield of World War I, an 18-year-old new recruit lieutenant (played by Asa Butterfield) came to the front line through the connection of his childhood friend and now heroic commander, Stanhope (played by Sam). But Stanhope had been changed beyond words by the war. He developed claustrophobia and became irritable and short-tempered.
