Zhou Shen

During the Northern Song Dynasty, an old monk named Zhi Shan in a temple adopted an abandoned baby. The baby had a scar on its belly, "the son of Wang Wen of Dongchang". Zhi Shan found that the baby was half human and half fox, and resolutely decided to adopt it and teach it to be virtuous with all its heart. He named the baby Wang Zi and taught her to recite scriptures and meditate every day.

This film uses a flashback technique to tell an event that took place on New Year's Eve in the deep winter of 1947 in an old mountain valley in Northeast China, in the home of an old hunter.
