At 18:00 on January 3, 2010, the 1814 passenger train from Harbin to Baotou, operated by the Baotou Passenger Transport Section of Hohhot Railway Bureau, was stuck between Dadonggou and Sanjiehaizi stations on the Jitong Line due to snow damage caused by a heavy snowfall. The section where the train was blocked was located in a deep gully and depression, with snow covering the railway line up to 2 meters thick and over 300 meters long. The thickest part of the snow not only buried the roof of the train but also froze and sealed the train doors, trapping 1,400 passengers and crew members inside the carriages. The Hohhot Bureau took immediate action and quickly assembled a snow-removal force of nearly 5,000 people on the Jitong Line, engaging in a life-and-death battle with the snow demon. In the bone-chilling wind of over 40 degrees below zero, railway workers and cadres were delivering water and food to passengers while racing against time to fight the wind and snow. At 20:40 on January 4, 2010, the 1814 train, which had been trapped for 26 hours, finally set off again, embarking on its journey home.[Collapse]
