Masao Yanagita (played by Hiroshi Sekiguchi) and Kiyoko (played by Momoe Yamaguchi), who live in Kokura, Kitakyushu, are a pair of ill-fated siblings whose parents passed away early and who have been relying on each other since childhood. One day, Masao was arrested on charges of being a suspect in a robbery and murder case. With solid evidence, the honest and taciturn primary school teacher Masao was at a loss for words to defend himself. Kiyoko, who firmly believes in her brother's innocence, travels to Tokyo and visits the renowned elite lawyer, Kinzo Otsuka (played by Rentaro Miku), to defend her brother's innocence. Otsuka, who only cares about money, coldly rejected the desperate Kiyoko. This scene was just witnessed by Keiichi Abe (played by Tomokazu Miura), a reporter from Social Weekly. Abe tried every possible way to clear things up for Kiyoko and did his utmost to investigate the truth of the case, but in the end, he couldn't change the fate of Masao being executed, and Kiyoko's life hit rock bottom. In contrast, Otsuka, who was high and mighty, was enjoying a life of luxury and nobility, without realizing that his fate was also controlled by the lowly people at the bottom... This film is adapted from the original work of the same name by mystery writer Seicho Matsumoto.[Collapse]
