Sun Houcheng (played by Wu Xingguo) is a veteran. In 1949, when the Civil War broke out, Sun Houcheng had to leave his mother (played by Wang Weiwei) and wife Zu Ning (played by Zhao Shijin), and follow the army to Taiwan. He thought that he could return to the mainland when the situation stabilized a little, but he never expected that this separation would last for decades. During these long years, Sun Houcheng reorganized his family and settled in Taiwan, but in his heart, he never let go of his relatives who were far away on the other side of the Taiwan Strait for a moment. Finally, Sun Houcheng set foot on the homeland of his motherland with his daughter, only to find that everything had changed. Zu Ning passed away, and his son Jia Wang (played by Geng Le), whom he had never met before, grew up. However, the estrangement between father and son had become so deep that Sun Houcheng could only return to Taiwan in sadness and regret. Another ten years passed in the blink of an eye. Sun Houcheng suffered a stroke and was on the verge of death. Jia Wang, with her child, rushed to her father's side to see him for the last time. The family was finally reunited in tears.[Collapse]
