In the 1920s, the conflicts between Britain and Ireland deepened continuously, eventually leading to the outbreak of the Irish War of Independence. Damian (played by Cillian Murphy), a medical college student who originally had a bright future, upon learning of the outbreak of war, resolutely put down his pen and joined the army. He returned to his hometown and joined the IRA together with his younger brother Teddy (played by Padraic Delaney) and his good friend Dan (played by Liam Cunningham). This group of young people, with their passionate enthusiasm and excellent tactics, repeatedly defeated the "Black and Brown" militia forces employed by the British government. Their resistance forced the British army to agree to sign the treaty, yet this also became a crossroads where former comrades-in-arms parted ways... This film won the Palme d 'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, the Best Cinematography Award at the 2006 European Film Festival, the Best Irish Film Audience Award at the 2007 Irish Television Film Awards, and the Best Supporting Actor (Liam Cunningham) and Best Film Awards at the IFTA.[Collapse]
