Handsome young man Michael (played by Walter Slezak) is the exclusive model of the painter Sullet. Based on Michael, Sullet has created exquisite artworks and gained great fame. People come in a continuous stream to ask for his paintings. However, Sullet refuses to sell his masterpieces in order to preserve the beautiful memories with Michael. The young and beautiful countess visited Sulet and asked him to paint her portrait. Michael silently gazed at the countess. As their eyes met, affection welled up. After much thought, Sulet decided to paint the countess, but the creation soon came to a standstill because Sulet couldn't depict the countess's eyes. Michael picked up the brush to do it for her, and the countess's beautiful expression was vividly depicted on the painting... Michael fell in love with the countess and gradually left Sulet. Sulet endured the deception and betrayal of the young man, presenting her inner sorrow in her paintings. The fire of life, tormented by loneliness, gradually died out... This film is adapted from Herman Bon's novel of the same name and is one of the earliest works in the history of cinema to involve the theme of homosexuality.[Collapse]
