The story takes place in a world very similar to our Earth, where people's souls transform into spirits and follow them. Lila (portrayed by Dakota Blue Richards) has been living with her uncle, who is the president of the University of Jordan, since childhood. She is passionate, brave and full of justice. One day, Mrs. Colt (played by nicole kidman) was going to the north and hoped that Lila would be by her side. Curious Lila happily agreed. Before leaving, her uncle handed her a golden compass and told her that only one person in the world could understand it. Lila not only got the answers to the questions she asked from the golden compass, but also learned about the mystery of her own origin. All along the way, Mrs. Colt behaved strangely. Lila also found that the name of her missing friend Roger was prominently written on one of Mrs. Telt's lists!
