This film can be regarded as a sequel to Wenders' "The State of Things". The director of the previous episode, Friedrich (played by Patrick Bauchau), went to Lisbon to shoot materials for this film. He invited the film sound engineer Philip (played by Rudiger Vogler) to collect sounds for his silent film. After receiving the invitation postcard, Philip rushed to Lisbon as agreed, but he couldn't find any trace of Friedrich. He only discovered some mysterious clues left by him. According to a film left by the director about a certain town in Lisbon, Philip went there to collect sounds. He roamed through the streets and alleys, recording all kinds of sounds. While wandering around Lisbon, he met a female singer who sang film interludes, and from then on, his life added a touch of charm. At the end of the film, he found Friedrich and learned the reason why the director left: Faced with the impact of commercial images, the director has become numb to them and can no longer find inspiration and passion for shooting. So he invented a blind shooting technique, which involves carrying the camera on his shoulder and walking around freely, allowing the lens to record the images of wherever he goes. He believes that this kind of recording is a faithful record of a place, objective and true.[Collapse]
