Butch (Josh?) (Played by Josh Hartnett) and Lee (played by Alan?) Both played by Aaron Eckhart are outstanding figures in the boxing world. Li is called "Mr. Fire", while Butch is called "Mr. Ice". Li is in the police station's enforcement team, while Butch is rather down and out. At a boxing match held at the police station, Butch deliberately lost to Li and thus joined the police station, becoming Li's partner. The two even became close friends who could talk about anything. The two were ordered to investigate a series of murders committed by a guy named Nash. During an ambush, Lee shot and killed a suspect who was watching to save Butch, but failed to catch Nash. Shortly after, the two found the body of Short, known as the "Black Dahlia", near the scene. The cause of Short's death was terrifying. Li soon gave up the investigation of Nash's case and focused all his energy on pursuing Short's case alone. The early release of Bobby Ti, the bank robber captured by Li back then, also left Li feeling extremely frustrated. In order to help his partner, Butch also began to investigate himself.
