The story takes place in the turbulent times of warlord division after the fall of the Qing Dynasty in the early 20th century. A young squad leader, Di Qi (played by Patrick Tam), was promoted seven ranks in a row to become a brigade commander for saving the Grand Marshal Meng Datong once.
