A small village in the isolated northern part of Denmark in the 1870s. A pair of Christian sisters, Martina (played by Birgitte Federspiel) and Philippa (played by Bodil Kjer), usually live a secluded life. Under the guidance of their father, who is a priest, they are willing to sacrifice their love and devote themselves wholeheartedly to the religious cause. The kind-hearted sisters took in a woman named Babette (played by Stephane Audran) who came from Paris to escape the chaos. Babette, with a mysterious background, turned out to be a famous chef in a French restaurant. Babette was fortunate enough to receive a huge sum of 10,000 francs from France. To repay the kind-hearted sisters, Babette decided to cook himself on the anniversary of their father's death and serve the villagers a sumptuous French feast. This film is adapted from the novel by Danish female author Isaac Denassen. It won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 60th Academy Awards in 1988, the Catholic Humanitarian Award at the 40th Cannes Film Festival in 1987, and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 46th Golden Globe Awards in 1989.[Collapse]
